United Way of Coastal Carolina is committed to improving lives and delivering meaningful results. Your gift is entrusted to the capable hands of trained community volunteers who work together to carefully invest funds into local programs and initiatives that achieve the greatest impact in the four focus areas our community has said matter most.

Volunteers are at the heart of the four impact councils. They assess the needs and work with community partners to develop the strategies required to create lasting solutions to critical community issues.

What We Do

United Way is dedicated to the achievement of measurable results and community-level change.  Those aren’t just words, but it’s our commitment —our promise— to you. It’s how we ask you to measure our work. Are we making a difference? Are we impacting our community?

We understand you expect your charitable dollars to work hard. We do too. That’s why we’re so proud to share with you some of the results that your investment makes possible.

Need has no sense of time or place. It comes in the middle of the night or at work and it is also something with deeper roots that affects generations. Reaching out to people who have immediate, basic needs—like a homeless family needing a meal—is vital. We will never walk away from that responsibility.  Supporting programs that work within critical areas — Children, Families, Health, Youth and Crisis—is the foundation for a caring community.

But we must also accept responsibility for the bigger, deeper issues. For instance, what are the root causes that leave a family homeless? We are committed to investing more time and resources on these bigger challenges. United Way’s community priorities cover four areas that we believe can most significantly change our community long term.

  • Our community must have a network of services to meet basic needs and provide crisis intervention
  • Young children must start school safe, healthy and ready to learn
  • Youth must graduate from high school prepared for success
  • Our citizens must be financially stable, with the ability to provide and care for themselves and their families

The goal is to “advance the common good” for our community. Improving issues—like school readiness, high school graduation rates, access to quality health/dental care, availability of affordable housing—positively impact all of us.

A gift to United Way is truly an investment. We work, on your behalf, with hundreds of partners to deliver results. Measurable results.  With your continued support, we do what no single donor or agency can do alone.

Our Plan to Create Change

United Way has a plan for achieving lasting, positive change.

  • Pinpoint specific areas and issues where our community needs to focus its resources.
  • Develop strategies that address the underlying causes of an issue, not just symptoms.
  • Bring together donors, volunteers, companies, nonprofit organizations, and other organizations as community partners who are focused on a shared vision so that we maximize, and not duplicate, efforts.
  • Track progress in achieving measurable results and then report those results back to donors and the community.
